Help Section 1

The particulars in this section should be true for (and work in) most browsers  —  but ONLY on our site.

BLUE text is a link to
  • another page on this site
  • another section of the page you're on
  • an external site
RED text is a link
  • you have already visited
GREEN text is where you can simply point
  • to get a footnote   (clicking is not required)
BOTTOM  (at the right of your screen)
  • takes you to the BOTTOM of the current page
BACK  (at the right of your screen)
  • takes you BACK one page
TOP  (at the right of your screen)
  • takes you to the TOP of the current page
The BOTTOM of each page has
  • update info for that page
  • a full set of "Level 1" page links for this site, just in case the left edge nav-bars are not entirely visible, including
  • a link to the Home Page   (unless you are on it)
You will find a CONTENTS table at the top of the main page of
  • any page with sub-sections
  • any page with sub-pages
At the TOP of each page is its Title
  • normally in a brown bold serifed font
  • The text before the first  //  is the Title of the "Level 1" page you are on, or under.
  • Sometimes the (full) Title is longer than what was on the nav-bar or link entity (picture, icon, graphic, text, or whatever) that brought you to that page.
A RED nav-bar  (at the left of your screen)
  • tells you what "Level 1" page you are on
  • is not clickable
A PINK nav-bar  (at the left of your screen)
  • tells you what "Level 1" page you are under
  • is clickable, and
  • returns you to the "CONTENTS Table" page
The LIGHT-BLUE nav-bars   (at the left of your screen)
  • are direct links to every other "Level 1" page on this site
  • have RED text on them if you have previously visited that page
  • have BLUE text on them if you have not visited that page
Miscellaneous Tips:
  • Pictures with blue borders are links.
  • Pictures with green borders yield enlargements.
  • Point to any picture for caption.
  • Point to green text for additional info.
  • All communities are in Pennsylvania unless otherwise noted.
Hot Keys

Help Section 2

The 13 Hot-Keys listed in the table below work only on our site  —  but while you're here, you may find a few of them useful.   The center column tells you where the Hot-Key will take you, and the right column also lists the key and/or button that is normally available for the same purpose  —  and that one works on any site  —  not just ours.

These Hot-Keys are especially easy to use:  in that you don't have to combo them with the ALT key (or any other).   A single keypress gets the job done  —  and 'snot important whether you're in caps or pygs.

The 3 that most people find themselves using, are listed first.   If you forget them, no sweat, there is always a popable reminder on the screen  —  just to the right of the car's roof.   Simply run your mouse over the greenie that says HOT KEYS, and the three biggies will appear.   If you click there, it will bring you back to where you are now.   For that matter, so does the  K  Hot-Key.

The 5 greenies in the following table will yield additional information about those particular Hot-Keys.   By the way, mousing over greenies anywhere on our site, will always enhance your visit.   Sometimes, you'll simply get a few words of clarification on the term  —  other times you'll get a whole mini-biography on someone in the automotive world.

M Bottom of Page End Key
B Back one page Back Button & Backspace Key
J Forward one page Forward Button & Alt-RightArrow

On a rare occasion, you'll find that the Hot-Keys don't work.   Left-click anywhere in a blank spot on the main (text section of the) page, and then try the Hot-Key again.   That should do 'er.   •••   Incidentally, you may use the same tactic when your arrow keys are failing to move the page when you press 'em.

Help Section 3

Many people never become aware of some very useful shortcuts in using their web-browser.   Hopefully, we can rectify that situation slightly here.

As of this writing, a vast portion of the web-surfing world uses MS Internet Explorer 6.0 as their browser of choice.

The following tips are based on using that browser  –  although some of them may also work on other versions of Internet Explorer, as well as browsers from Netscape, Opera, or others.

  1. A quick press of the BACKSPACE key is often easier than mousing to the "Back" button  —  they do the same thing.

  2. Want a taller window ?   The F11 key is the key.   It toggles between a maximum-sized useful window (with minimal clickable icons), and the regular-sized window (with multiple rows of icons).

  3. The HOME key goes to Top-of-Page.

  4. The END key goes to Bottom-of-Page.

  5. The SPACEBAR is equivalent to PageDown.

  6. Shift-SPACEBAR is equivalent to PageUp.

  7. The F5 key refreshes the screen.   It is often easier than mousing to the "Page-Refresh" icon.

  8. The Ctrl-F key combination will Find a word (or phrase) of your choosing on the current page.

  9. The ESC key does different things at different times.

    1. While a page is loading, it is equivalent to the "Stop" button, and will terminate the loading of the remainder of the page.

    2. In many other cases it will close a window, but not always.     Try it and see.

  10. The Alt-F4 key combination is the standard window closer.   The trouble with this is that, sometimes by using it, you end up closing your browser entirely, when that was not at all what you wanted to do.     Try using

  11. The Ctrl-W key combination instead of "Alt-F4" to close a window if  ESC  doesn't do it.   —   It works occasionally.

  12. The Alt-HOME key combination will take you to your default Home Page  —  the one that appears when you first invoke your browser.
Of course, most of these can also be achieved a la mouse.
But sometimes, a "key" method is faster, or easier.

The dozen above should work no matter what website you are browsing
—  if your browser is IE 6.0.

Please see the Hot Keys section for shortcuts that also work just fine  —  but only on our website.
