Our English word "tithe" is derived from Greek, and essentially
means "a tenth." But the practice of
TITHING
substantially
pre-dates even Grecian history, which started around 3000 B.C.
The act of tithing is a demonstration of two fundamental
beliefs. The first is: I am always
supplied beyond my real needs. And the
second is: The more I contribute to my community, the richer
my life becomes.
I was exposed to tithing at a very young age. And our Dad
taught us that even though "tithing" is usually considered as "giving
money to a church", it really means:
CONTRIBUTING TO YOUR COMMUNITY.
He said, "And it's not always
money. It's also your time, bread, fruit, vegetables, a
chair you made, clothing, whatever."
Another thing he said was that when seeking where and how to
tithe, take a good look at the many non-profit organizations that
serve your community.
And throughout a good portion of his life, Dad tithed to local
libraries — and in his later years,
museums. And now, I do too.

It would take a new kind of "science fiction" to imagine the
world today without automotive transportation. Our own
southeastern Pennsylvania played a huge role in writing the early
history of the automobile. At the Boyertown Museum, the
significant advances are recorded, and examples are preserved, of
the horse-drawn and motorized vehicles, which helped create today's
world of highway travel.
Members of the Museum make it possible to gather, preserve, and
study important transportation artifacts. The Museum is a
place for learning and understanding, supported by individuals who
love local history, and believe that understanding it strengthens our
community, and adds to our quality of life.

You've seen the ads about donating your old car to
charity. What a great idea! It's deductible,
and hassle-free. Call us today for details on donating
your car, truck, boat, or other property, to the Boyertown Museum
of Historic Vehicles.
The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, like nearly every
museum in the world, is a non-profit organization, and relies
primarily on the community that it serves for its
support. Less than 11% of what it takes to keep our
Museum up and running (and expanding) comes from visitor admission
fees; and only another 10% from sales in our
store. An occasional government grant helps a
smidge — but with that, admissions, and the store
combined, it only amounts to 22% of what is needed to keep these doors
open.
A provision in your will for an endowment to the Boyertown Museum
of Historic Vehicles, no matter how large or small, would be a
wonderful gift to your community.
Thank you so much.
Visits to our Museum by students and parents who school at home are
not unusual. But, recently we heard again from a group of
Pottstown home schooling parents concerning how difficult it is to
find places like this museum that meet their educational needs.
Parents tell us that the museum fits into their curriculum in several
areas including Pennsylvania history, and science
and technology. It has learning opportunities for
children from the early grades through high school. It
has proven to be a productive outing that they say they were very
pleased to discover.
We took this as a call on all of us, including museum members and
friends, to do more to point home schooling families to the resources
available here. Word of mouth is particularly useful in
reaching parents of this growing group. They are parents
with a very high desire to provide outstanding educational
experiences for their kids.
You can help by telling your home schooling friends to check out our
website www.boyertownmuseum.org
and then visit.
But not just parties. The Museum is a great venue for
business and club meetings, as well as for celebrating birthdays,
wedding anniversaries, or any other important event.
We help make your special occasion even more special.
The Museum's facilities include meeting and conference areas, dining
and reception rooms — and, of course, the Museum's
great collections for an after-the-event visit into transportation
history.
Food ? Yes! Our top-notch professional
caterer offers a wide variety of scrumptious menus for your eating
pleasure. Or, if you wish, they can build the cuisine to
suit your personal taste and budget.
Don't forget the kids. We specialize in parties for young
people. Games, crafts, ice cream and cake.
We'll make your
Johnny —
or Jane — the star of the party.
